IELP 5315-365 Getting Started with Canvas LMSUEN Tech Course Massive Open Online Course
Participants will learn how to design and deliver an online course using Canvas LMS. This course will guide participants in creating their own course, adding engaging content, assessing student learning, and communicating effectively using Canvas. This MOOC (massive open online course) is designed for K-12 teachers with intermediate technology skills, that feel that they can work independently and at their own pace through the course material.
Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)
These courses are open entry/exit with no enrollment cap. All coursework and assignments can be completed at the participants own pace. There is very limited instructor interaction. This course section will be open until July 31, 2018. All coursework in this MOOC must be completed by August 31, 2018.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
Identify and apply best practices of online teaching and learning by designing a learning unit supported by online components in Canvas
Demonstrate basic understanding of accepted instructional design principles by creating a unit of study in Canvas LMS
Understand how to use Canvas tools and features commonly used to deliver instruction by creating assignments, discussions and assessments, and use the communication tools built into Canvas
Participants must have intermediate computer and internet skills
Canvas account. Either a paid for instance or free-for-teachers
Curriculum to use to build the course
Participants will create a basic Canvas course and submit a screencast of the completed course as evidence of completion.
Credit / Licensure Points:
Credit is recorded according to the credit type selected during enrollment.
USBE Credit: Credit is recorded in the MIDAS System.
SUU Credit: Participants must complete the SUU credit form after successful completion of course. Upon receipt of the form, participants should add their payment, complete the form and mail to SUU within 30 days. SUU records the participants credit in a university transcript. SUU charges a $21 per credit transcription fee.
Certificate: Certificates are provided to participants at the end of the course either in-person or via email.
