On November 20, Ogden Prep and the YMCA hosted Reality Town for all ninth graders. Reality Town is a simulation that allows students a glimpse into how finances actually work. Careers were assigned based off of first quarter’s grades and students were given a yearly salary and checkbook. All students were randomly assigned a family situation, such as the possibility of a spouse, and number of children. They were required to visit different booths where they made decisions about what purchases fit into their lifestyle and monthly salary. Booths included items like housing, transportation, groceries, utilities, property tax, and insurance.
