LEA Educator Licensing Notice
Under Utah State Board Rule 277-301.7 this serves as notice that Ogden Prepatory Academy has in its employ individual(s) who hold LEA-specific educator licenses, license areas, or endorsements.
Educator Licensing at Ogden Preparatory Academy
In Utah, all teachers must hold a valid teaching license and demonstrate ongoing progress toward obtaining a Professional Educator License (PEL) to be eligible to teach in state schools. Ogden Preparatory Academy (OPA) fully complies with all State and Federal educator licensing requirements.
Utah offers three (3) distinct licensing levels:
- Professional Educator License (PEL)
The PEL represents the highest level of licensure in Utah, signifying that all licensing requirements have been successfully met. This license certifies an educator’s qualifications to teach in the state. - Associate Educator License (AEL)
The AEL is designed for individuals who wish to teach in Utah but have not yet completed a formal educator preparation program (whether university-based or an alternative pathway). The AEL is valid for three (3) years and is not renewable. This license is appropriate for:
- Individuals enrolling in a university-based educator preparation program or an alternative pathway program.
- Individuals who are employed as teachers in Utah schools and are currently enrolled in an educator preparation program.
- Individuals who already hold a Utah Professional License and wish to add a new licensure area.
- OPA LEA Specific License
The OPA LEA Specific License is a unique teaching license issued by the OPA Board of Directors. It is valid for up to three (3) years and is recognized as a legitimate teaching credential for educators who:
- Are actively working toward obtaining either a PEL or AEL but have experienced delays in processing their paperwork.
- Have specialized experience or expertise in a particular field outside their licensed area and are in the process of initiating the Utah licensure process.
Endorsements
Endorsements are additional certifications that can be attached to an educator’s license, often signifying specific expertise or qualifications in a particular area of teaching. Some teaching assignments, such as those for Junior High content teachers, require specific endorsements, while others demonstrate an educator’s broader skill set.
OPA LEA Specific Endorsement
The OPA LEA Specific Endorsement is a special designation issued by the OPA Board of Directors. It is available to educators holding either a PEL or AEL and is valid for up to three (3) years. This endorsement serves to recognize additional expertise or qualifications relevant to OPA’s teaching needs.
At OPA, we are committed to supporting our educators in their professional development and ensuring they meet all state and federal licensing requirements.
